Filament planning

Filament Needed Calculator

Plan enough material before starting a batch, then see whether the spool on hand has a sensible reserve.

Inputs

Use the model-only or full slicer estimate consistently.
Enter the net filament available, not the loaded spool weight.

How the calculation works

Total needed = part estimate × quantity × (1 + process allowance) × (1 + safety reserve).

How to use this result

A slicer estimate is a planning starting point, not a guarantee. Keep the reserve for variation, a longer prime line, or a failed start; use the Spool Remaining Calculator when you need to derive usable filament from a scale reading.

Example

Three 85 g parts with 5% process allowance and 10% reserve need more than the simple 255 g model total.
