1. Keep feedstock identity intact
Sort by known polymer and compatible grade before shredding. Remove labels, metal, dirt, adhesives, unknown plastic, and degraded material. A calculator cannot make mixed or contaminated feedstock compatible.
2. Define the batch recipe
Choose the recycled share of the polymer portion and use only a supplier-supported masterbatch or additive percentage. The blend calculator works backward from usable output and your measured process loss so each input can be weighed.
3. Measure losses instead of guessing forever
Weigh material after sorting, size reduction, extrusion startup, and QC. Sequential yield shows whether the largest opportunity is better sorting, less retained flake, a shorter startup purge, or tighter process control.
4. Compare line speed with mass output
A steady cooled diameter, solid density, and line speed imply a theoretical mass rate. Compare that rate with a timed collection weigh test. A mismatch can indicate voids, an incorrect density assumption, speed measurement error, or diameter variation.
5. Sample diameter and ovality
One average diameter is not enough. Measure at repeated positions and, when practical, rotate the strand about 90 degrees for a paired reading. Record mean, spread, pass rate, and ovality against a tolerance chosen for the intended use.
6. Synchronize winding
At constant line speed, spool RPM falls as wound diameter grows. The traverse guide must slow with it to keep the same pitch per revolution. Verify tension, flange clearance, and reversals physically before leaving a winder unattended.
7. Label the accepted spool
Record polymer identity, recycled and virgin masses, additive, run date, measured yield, diameter summary, and any intended-use restriction. Reprocess or segregate rejected output rather than silently merging it into an accepted spool.
Safety boundary
